Online reports had it that the former NSA in a statement with the EFCC during his investigation on Wednesday, December 1 implicated a former governor of Rivers state Peter Odili and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Bode George among many others.

The reports said the mentioned parties were implicated in the $2 billion arms purchase deal by Dasuki during his tenure as the NSA.

But speaking through his lawyer, Ahmed Raji, the former NSA said he never made such statement.

Raji said: “I was with Dasuki yesterday and wish to make categorical statement that my client never made any statement of such nature or naming anybody or group in any statement.

“Quote me anywhere, Dasuki has not done anything like that. It is absolutely untrue. It is the figment of the imagination of the authors aimed at creating falsehood for reasons best known to them and Nigerians should disregard them.”

Raji said the online reports were aimed at scandalizing his client.

“They are just out to scandalise the man, bring his image and character into disrepute so that his friends and well-wishers can run away from him. They want him deserted and that will fail,” Raji said.

Dasuki is facing charges for illegal arms deals made during his tenure as the NSA.The former NSA was picked up from his home on Tuesday, December 1, by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).

He is also accused of money laundering, diversion of funds meant for procurement of arms during his tenure as the NSA.

While Dasuki has said he is innocent and not afraid to face the charges against him, the President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that the former NSA be arrested.
